We are in Vézelay, Burgundy. The first stop on the Way of St James. The Hôtel de la Poste et du Lion d’Or is getting a makeover. The new owners, Tibault and his family, are renovating the lobby and looking for flooring. Together, we come up with an idea: black and white palmette rugs, hand-painted one by one, on the floor and stair steps.
The deadline is very short, just a few nights. The work, however, requires time and patience.
Once finished, the result is charming, the floor is both elegant and warm, unexpected and beautiful.
Here are a few photos
And a little curiosity: while travelling in London, we visited Tate Britain (masterful Turner) and admired a black and white palmette floor, but in marble!
