An order like this doesn’t come along every day (which is a shame!).
For Ateliers Gohard, Frank painted a chest of drawers with miniatures based on Tiepolo’s work – it’s absolutely stunning! On the sides and drawers of a curved model, a whole series of paintings of frescoed ceilings and large-format canvases by the great painter, reduced to small size.
It required meticulous work, and then the choice of techniques, colours and transparency to render the freshness of the fresco and the master’s ‘thrown’ touch.
The deadline was very tight: from the initial sketch to the final brushstrokes, there were just a few weeks…
Frank has produced a remarkable piece of work, which will probably be followed by others.
