We are in the 13th arrondissement of Paris… David Genin (DG Lab) is the interior designer
who commissions us with the most modern and daring decoration projects. Under his
watchful eye, brasseries, shops and private homes are
renovated with elegance and originality.

Frank was contacted to create and paint a design on a raw concrete wall.
It’s a great idea. The image of an Asian woman’s face will ultimately be replaced
by two Chinese fish, a symbol of wealth and the two polarities,
Yin and Yang, in China. Once the model is complete and approved, it’s time to think about implementing the design.
There is never enough time when it comes to renovating public premises. A restaurant cannot
close for long; a few days and nights must suffice, sometimes as little as
a long weekend.

In this case, Frank has half a week. He starts by transferring the design onto tracing paper
(first day) and then from the tracing paper to the wall (second day).
Once the preparatory phase is complete, he begins painting, a graphic style reminiscent of
street art and graffiti in London’s Brick Lane neighbourhood… Roses, butterflies, spheres and
then fish take shape, dressed in black and beautiful bright colours.

At the very end, the gilding on the palmettes, the final stage of the work, this gold on the raw concrete, so
unexpected… There we are, it’s the morning of the fourth day, the work is finished, we’re on
schedule, phew.
